About This Project

THE SAVE follows Gina Castañeda, a juvenile probation officer in Watsonville, CA. who uses soccer for social change in a community struggling with gang violence and poverty. Soccer saved her life, and now she is giving back what was given to her. This short film was part of the ESPN HERoics series, during coverage of the 2011 FIFA Women’s Soccer World Cup.
